Fairytales do come true.

It mystifies me.

Some girls can’t step out of their house without putting on full makeup, perfectly styled hair and dressed to the nines, i.e outfit complete with accessories - scarves, numerous necklaces, dangly earrings and high heels. Oh of course, a handbag that complements the outfit to a T.

But this post isn’t about their fashion sense.

I just don’t understand how they are willing to spend 20 to 30 minutes (or more) to put makeup on their faces. I’ve also talked about this with my friends, and the conclusion we came up with? “They are born like that laaa.

But still.

For example, Xiaxue’s latest blog post is about her visiting during CNY. Of course, pictures are included too. I have to say, I admire her - the fact that she dressed up (the phrase here would be - well turned out) and her makeup is something that I can never ever pull off. But this is just my point. She’s just going visiting (relatives, at that too) and she goes all out.

Hmm. I don’t really know how to articulate this befuddlement I feel.

I’m sure you have a friend or two like this. The one who always seem oh so stylish to the extent that she is like a walking magazine. The one who never lets herself get caught in jeans and a t shirt two sizes too large, or Japanese slippers/thongs. The one who is the antonym to the adjective “slobby”. Her makeup is always carefully and expertly done, just the right amount to accentuate her face. It’s the whole packagelah, you know.

I envy girls like them, actually. They are so damn girly they make me feel like such a ugly slob in my t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. But I am always so curious. The effort they put in to look so good…why? There’s a girl in my class who is like that - fair, slim, excellent style (though not my taste), and nice makeup.

Do guys actually prefer girls like this? Hmm..I guess some guys do. They are probably the metrosexual types, the ones who also appreciate the effort and time put in to create their overall “look”. If I were a guy, I would hesitate from approaching these type of girls, because the air they exude just screams “high maintenance!”. But damn, these are the model types, you know. The ones you gawk at and secretly wish you can have, but you know that they are just not in your class.

Besides that “high maintenance” air, they also seem supremely self-confident. Not a hair out of place, with great clothes and good makeup, it would be hard NOT to feel confidentlah, actually.

These type of girly girls - the one who revels in their femininity, the one who embraces that she is female and emphasises that - why are they different from me ah?

I wear my specs all the time , can hardly be bothered with wearing skirts because I have to remove my leg hair and it’s such a hassle (I do get my “ahhh it would be great to wear a skirt” days, too, of course), is most comfortable in T shirt and jeans, don’t bother to even condition my hair most of the times, don’t even bother wearing any form of accessories (because you don’t really need to accessorise when you’re in T shirt and jeans :P ), even if I do use accessories, it would just be EITHER a necklace or a pair of earrings, and MAKEUP? What makeup? I don’t know how to put on makeup at all. I need some expert help man. I love the smoky eyes look. HELP!

But we’re both girls…is my chromosome like Xx and theirs XX? That they are MORE girl than I am? This is really puzzling, you know.

Some people might call them “vain” but it’s more than that, it’s their style, you know. They are just NOT the types to be slobby.

The irony is that when I was typing this, I was watching America’s Next Top Model 4. And the girls were all in jeans and tees, hair all tied up and minimal makeup. The transformation AFTER the makeup artist and the hairstylist is amazing. So damn glamourous all. The power of makeup!

So yeah, I would so love to be those glamourous, fashion plate type, you know. But it’s just not my style. I don’t even bother putting on concealer or foundation even when I go out with Jarod, though I really should. All the scars and pimples…*sigh*

Wait. *ponders* We all know makeup is bad for your skin…so if I put makeup to hide the blemishes and what nots, it could aggravate the condition. So I don’t put makeup and fervently hope that one day, I will wake up with smooth skin. But that time, I don’t need foundation liao. Hmm..I could still use eyeshadow, BUT I DON’T KNOW HOW TO PUT ON MY WEIRD EYES LEH!!

But wouldn’t it be nice, though, to be like them?

But then, the kicker of course comes when the girl takes off her makeup. Suddenly, in comparison, she looks kinda plain, because the healthy blush has been washed off, the pink lips disappeared, the eyes seems smaller after the optical illusion-style makeup is gone. Isn’t it quite a hassle to always maintain that perfectly groomed look? I always advocate “natural beauty is best” because Im super lazy and too impatient to put on makeup, hehe. But these girls, they could be plain, and makeup makes them look better. If they’re pretty already, then makeup makes them look like a model. Hmm…I think I should pick up the art of makeup too.

Damn these girls! Make me feel so inadequate! Grrr!

But yes, coming back. Why do these girls put in so much effort, even if it was just to the mall with friends? I mean, what is the rationale? Because it makes them feel beautiful? Because it makes them feel confident? But isn’t it a bit of an irony that you can only feel confident when you have full face makeup on? Because it’s their style to be perfectly groomed? Why ah, really? I want to know. I’m curious!

If there were two girls - one very stylish, with hair and makeup all done, and the other, in comfy jeans and a tank top, bare skin on face - who would you prefer? Both are pretty. GirlA’s makeup makes her look stunning, whereas GirlB is just au naturel. Who would catch your eye more?

I am really curious about these type of girls, really.
